Avebury - the other Stonehenge

LOOK AT THE SLEEPING LAMBS!
It doesn't get cuter
O' ohh, it just did - Lambs Frolicking
Today we are rambling around a small village in Wiltshire called 'Avebury'
I've called it "The Other Stonehenge" as everyone knows about Stonehenge up the road:
(Look how spooky it looks, the fog cleared once we left!)
But Avebury has a WAY bigger collection of standing stones - the biggest in Europe!
Plus it's free to visit (Stonehenge will set you back about 8 pound)
See it's mega (Google image search)
Plus there are thatched roof cottages aplenty!
Local Watering Hole - The Red Lion
Trust Paula to find the pub.
Picturesque or what!?
And manicured hedges and gardens...
View of the church through the trees.
And The Circle Cafe - that does delish cream teas
You get a fresh-out-the-oven scone, clotted cream, jam
and a pot of your choice of tea for 4 Pound 50P!

There is the Keiller Museum to visit - full of archaeological finds.
Also a permanent exhibit gallery about Avebury and it's history in the 17th Century Threshing Barn. We didn't visit the Museums, we were too busy enjoying the beautiful (characteristically un-British) weather.

I recommend a visit to Avebury - the town is so picturesque and you can have a nice walk around a Neolithic historical site, plus there's a a rockin' gift shop that sells cool little English trinkets and loads of Pagan crystals and text books :-S
I found it less touristy than Stonehenge - which is set up really to make money and you can't get anywhere near the stones like you can here!

Happy Travels everyone.
